On Sunday February 5, Oneball fundraised and celebrated the most American day of the year, Super Bowl Sunday. And in case you didn’t hear, the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24 – 10 to win the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.

This year Oneball expanded its fundraising efforts for the Super Bowl, which is better known as the Super Ball to Oneballers. While the main event was still at Hudsons Downtown, we had several betting games at the Crowfoot and Shawnessy locations of Hudsons as well. Through the 85 people at the Downtown location and the betting games at the other locations we were able to raise over $5,300!

Big thanks to our gracious host Hudsons who allowed us to take over the backroom at the Downtown location as well as expand our fundraising efforts to the Crowfoot and Shawnessy locations. Promisingly, even though the Crowfoot and Shawnessy locations were not full-blown Super Ball events they were still able to contribute over $500 to the Super Ball fundraising total. This shows that while the growth of a testicle can be bad, the growth of the Super Ball can be great!

And where would we be without our Oneball UCalgary volunteers? This was the smoothest [run] Super Ball yet and Oneball UCalgary had a huge part in it. So thank you so much Oneball Ucalgary for helping us shave [time and some of the hassle] off [of the running of] the Super Ball.

Ultimately, the Super Ball doesn’t happen without the contributions of many individuals and organizations.  As the saying goes, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. In this case the child, and the whole village, was fed by a single sponsor. As Oneball President Chris Lloyd says, “This year our annual Superball event really reached new heights and could not have been possible without our incredible student volunteers, the fantastic staff at Hudsons, and the incredibly generous donation from Keyera. So many people’s eyes lit up when I mentioned that they would have UNLIMITED appetizers, which was the direct result of Keyera’s donation.  Keyera has been a consistent and strong believer of this event and we were grateful that they were able to help us knock it out of the park again!”

A final thank you goes out to everybody who showed up and donated money to our worthy cause. We hope you had a ball, we had a Super Ball! Pun intended. Hope to see everyone next year!
